Mark Smith, LCPC – Licensed Professional Counselor
COMPASSIONATE, LIFESPAN-ORIENTED THERAPY FOR LIFE TRANSITIONS, RELATIONSHIPS, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, GRIEF & ADHD.
Mark is a licensed professional counselor in Maryland who is dedicated to helping clients navigate life transitions, relationship challenges, and personal growth, as well as supporting those dealing with mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, and adhd. He earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University and utilizes frameworks such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic practice to support his clients.
Mark brings a compassionate, lifespan-oriented approach to his practice. During his work at the Jewish Social Services Agency, he provided therapy services to adolescents and adults aged 17 to 89. At Flourish, Mark works with children, adolescents, and adults. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, participating in professional process groups to deepen his clinical presence.
Prior to transitioning fully into mental health counseling, Mark built a dynamic career that blended technical leadership with human development. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, he served as an Engineering Manager at Google Public Sector. Recognizing a profound interest in supporting others’ growth, he completed a Certificate in Leadership Coaching at Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership and provided internal coaching to his colleagues at Google.
Mark’s foundational commitment to community and helping roles stretches back to the 1980s, when he supported shelter residents at a children’s center in Hyattsville and provided crisis intervention on the Montgomery County Hotline and the University of Maryland Help Center.
A long-time resident of Cabin John, Maryland, Mark enjoys spending his free time with his wife, Tamzin, and their poodle, Gemma. When he is not in the counseling room, he can often be found planning his next wilderness hike or canoeing trip.
