Heather L. Gustafson
TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPY FOR ANXIETY, ADHD, EMOTIONAL REGULATION & LIFE TRANSITIONS
Heather is a trauma-informed LGPC who works with children, adolescents, young adults, and families experiencing anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, emotional regulation difficulties, self-esteem concerns, peer-relational challenges, and school-related stress.
She takes an integrative, whole-person approach to therapy, recognizing that emotional well-being is deeply connected to the mind, body, and nervous system. Heather especially enjoys helping clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences while developing healthy coping skills that support lifelong well-being.
Drawing from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and somatic techniques, Heather tailors each session to meet the unique needs of her clients. As a certified yoga instructor, she incorporates age-appropriate mindfulness practices, breathwork, movement, and body awareness when appropriate to help clients regulate their nervous systems, manage stress, and feel more grounded in their day-to-day lives.
Heather believes that healing begins with a trusting therapeutic relationship. She strives to create a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where each individual feels emotionally safe and understood.
Heather earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and is licensed to practice in Maryland.
Outside of the office, Heather enjoys movement, including yoga, walking, and tennis. She is based in Washington, DC, and spends her free time reading, crafting, and spending time with her cat, Jujubee.
